R U underpaid?
Don't belittle the value of junk mails, because sometimes they reveal something. I got one today (actually I spotted one in my box worth downloading to my local computer) with "R U underpaid?" in its subject line.
As a Generation X-er (or a marginalized Gen Y-er), I would give a barbaric reply --'definitely yes!' Though I don't think I am over-educated, the pay, for sure, is too low for a middle-class living style. The mail, unfortunately, turned out to be a flyer for forged college diplomas, real junk, and a bitter irony on my current embarrassing position -- a non-PhD in the 'publish-or-perish'-haunted ivory tower. Is it an urgent call from God that there is no one else to blame, and that to be well- or at least normally-paid I should hunt a degree ASAP?
How passive it is! Are we 'passives of the world' as Martin Gottfried once put? Or c'est la vie? Let me find a way out...
